Sutton Bridge Parish Council rejects plans for roundabouts
An application to install advertising signs at the roundabout should not be carried out as drivers should not be distracted by anything, parish council members say.
Sutton Bridge Parish Council will oppose plans by CP Media to install signs at the A17 Bridge Road roundabout.
The firm, which will manage the service on behalf of Lincolnshire County Council, has applied to South Holland District and Boston City Council to install signs at roundabouts in the area, including Long Sutton, Spalding and Sutterton.
But members of the parish council felt the sign might be too distracting at the roundabout.
Coun Chris Brewis said: “This is the most challenging roundabout between Newark and Sutton Bridge. I don’t need anything to distract people from negotiating this complex roundabout.
“I think he’s asking for trouble.”
Coun Ann Scarlett also said she was against the installation of a sign at the roundabout, but had mentioned earlier in the meeting that the roundabout should be retained.
The meeting was also told that a cyclist and a car had been involved in a collision on Sunday last week.
Coun Terry York said: “I am strongly against anything that detracts from road safety. It’s very dangerous.”
